    09.12.11: Pendelbury podiums with 4 top 10:
MILFORD, OH. September 9, 2011: Pendelbury podiums as Cleveland Clinic/RGF Sports riders packed the top 10.

Four CCSH/RGF riders converged in Southern Ohio for one of the final criteriums of the Midwest calendar. The Milford Sunflower Classic has quickly become a favorite for racers and spectators alike. A lively main street, a festival, and a twilight start make this a very exciting event. John Gatch, Bob Martin, Jeff Pendlebury, and Cory St. Clair pinned on numbers and attacked this 1 hour, 5 turn technical course. “We knew there’d be a break and we wanted in,” veteran U23 team captain Bob Martin reported. The four went to the front from the gun and took turns attacking until train left the station at about the ten-minute mark. The move of three contained Pendlebury, Chris Uberti Panther, and Brad Schaeffer NUVO. Confident in their man Jeff Pendlebury, Martin, St. Clair, and Gatch kept a steady tempo in the field shedding riders along the way. The 3-man break took a lap with about 15 minutes remaining to race. Pendleburys’ Cleveland Clinic teammates massed at the front of the now darkened streets and tried to keep the pace high enough to discourage attacks and start to set him up for the finale. Uberti knew what was happening and didn’t like the odds so he attacked. Jeff gamely marked the move and drew out the NUVO rider with him. The tricky final turns and short stretch to the finish saw Pendlebury not quite able to come around Chris Uberti and cross the line in 2nd. Bob Martin held off the field for fourth, Cory St. Clair was 7th, with Gatch 10th. All CCSH/RGF riders placed in the top 10 and they came away with all of the primes.

    06.20.11: FORBES & GATCH GO ONE-TWO:
FORBES & GATCH GO ONE-TWO AT OHIO STATE MASTERS CHAMPIONSHIPS

Zanesfield, Ohio – Saturday, June 18: Cleveland Clinic Sports Health/RGF Solutions p.b. Felt Bicycles riders O’Brien Forbes West Chester, Ohio and John Gatch Terrace Park, Ohio grab gold and silver at the Ohio State Masters 1/2/3 Road Race Championships.

The hard rain, which started to fall 20 minutes before the start of this 60 mile road race, didn’t put a damper on the strategy laid out by two seasoned bike racers. “The plan was simple,” according to Gatch. “We were going to get 1st and 2nd, finishing order didn’t make much difference to us. We just wanted the top two podium steps.” The duo let the first two 15 mile, mostly flat, loops soften up the legs of their competitors before acting out their plan. “The first couple of laps were fast and a little nervous with the rain. We marked any serious accelerations and tried to keep our powder dry – which wasn’t easy in those conditions!” related Forbes. With 20 miles left Forbes and Gatch traded attacks eventually leaving Forbes solo but only about 20 seconds up on the still lively group. Long, wide open sections where the bunch could still see OB whipped up many counters attacks and some hard tempo. Gatch marshaled the front of peloton and eventually the rubber band snapped leaving O’Brien to his last lap solo TT effort that “really hurt,” Forbes later said. Pain aside, O’Brien Forbes cruised for a solo victory nearly 90 seconds up on the group where John Gatch took the field sprint in the twisty, wet finale. “Last year I won and OB got second. This year he wins and I get second. It’s all good when RGF comes out on top,” Gatch summarized.
